Why publish with us
Society-owned, open-access journals with no fee to publish during their launch phase, single-blind peer review by independent experts, and every article citable from the day it appears.
You keep copyright. Articles carry Crossmark, are indexed by Google Scholar and BASE, and are harvestable through OAI-PMH. Article pages show views, downloads and citations from Dimensions. What we do not offer: fixed turnaround promises, or indexing we have not yet earned. Both are on the About page in full.
Choosing a journal
The 3 journals share one submission portal, one template and one set of article types, so the choice is about scope. Read the aims and recent articles of the journal you have in mind; if your work sits between two, the editorial office of either can advise before you submit.

| Green and Sustainable Environments Author guidelines · About | Green and Sustainable Environments publishes science, engineering and policy research on pollution, water, waste and resources, with particular attention to tropical and rapidly developing regions, where technology and governance together determine environmental outcomes. Studies may be grounded in a single place, but they must show what their findings mean beyond it. The journal is organized in four sections: Treatment and Resource Recovery, covering processes and materials that remove, destroy or recover contaminants and resources from water, wastewater, soil, air and solid waste; Contaminants: Occurrence, Fate and Risk, covering the sources, transport, transformation and risks of emerging contaminants, microplastics, metals and other pollutants; Environmental Monitoring, Spatial Analysis and Data Science, covering sensors, remote sensing, GIS, modelling and data-driven analysis that answer environmental questions; and Sustainable Systems and Circular Economy, covering life cycle, material-flow and circular-economy assessment of production, consumption and waste systems, including carbon accounting and mitigation. Alongside Research Articles, Reviews, Perspectives and Short Communications, the journal publishes Policy Analysis articles that evaluate environmental regulations, risk-based priorities, and economic and market-based instruments using quantitative or systematically gathered evidence. Preparing your manuscript
Start from a template, choose the article type that fits, and check the journal's guidelines for structure, figures and references. Formatting is deliberately light: a clear manuscript that reviewers can read matters more than a perfect layout, which is applied in production.

Word limits exclude references, figure captions and supporting information. Detailed rules for structure, figures, tables, references and supporting information are in each journal's guidelines, for example Prepare your manuscript.
Before you upload. Every author listed, with affiliation and ORCID where possible; one corresponding author; declarations of competing interests and funding ready; permission for any reused figure; and a manuscript that has not been published or submitted elsewhere. All submissions are screened with Crossref Similarity Check.
Submission walkthrough
Submissions go through the GSMS submission portal at submit.revise.id. Registration is free and takes a minute; the form has six steps and saves as you go, so you can return to an unfinished submission.
- Article type Pick the journal and the article type. Word limits and abstract rules follow from this choice.
- Files Drop the manuscript PDF (up to 50 MB per file), the cover letter and any supporting files, several at once. The Word file or LaTeX ZIP is optional now and required at revision.
- Metadata Title, abstract and keywords. These are what editors and reviewers see first, so paste the final versions.
- Authors Add every author with affiliation and, ideally, ORCID iD. Exactly one author is marked as corresponding.
- Additional information Declarations, funding and suggested or opposed reviewers.
- Review & submit A completeness check lists anything missing; then submit. You receive a confirmation email with a tracking link.
What happens next
You get a confirmation email with a tracking link that shows the manuscript's stage without logging in.
Each co-author is emailed to confirm authorship and affiliation. Tell them to expect it.
The Editor-in-Chief screens for scope, completeness and ethics. Out-of-scope work is returned quickly rather than sent to review; the editor may also ask for a desk revision first.
Peer review & decisions
All our journals use single-blind peer review: reviewers see your name; you do not see theirs. A handling editor invites at least two independent reviewers, weighs their reports, and writes the decision. We do not promise fixed turnaround times; the portal shows where your manuscript is at every stage.
The manuscript moves to production without further review.
Small changes; usually checked by the editor rather than sent back to reviewers.
Substantial changes; the revised version normally returns to the original reviewers.
The manuscript will not be considered further by that journal. The letter explains why.
Revising
Revisions are submitted through the same portal against the original record, not as a new submission. The decision letter gives the deadline; ask the editorial office early if you need more time. Upload a revised manuscript plus a response letter that addresses every comment in turn, including any you disagree with, and mark the changes in the manuscript.
Appeals against a decision go to the Editor-in-Chief in writing and are considered once. The reviewer side of the process is described on Review for us; the policy itself is in Publishing policies.
After acceptance
- TypesettingThe production team typesets the accepted manuscript to JATS XML and PDF in the journal's layout and checks it before proofs go out.
- ProofsThe corresponding author receives an email with a personal proof link (no account needed). Mark corrections directly on the PDF and return them by the date in the email. Proofs are for errors, not rewriting; changes to the title or author list need the editor's approval.
- Online FirstThe corrected article is published with its Crossref DOI and is citable at once, ahead of issue assignment.
- Issue & recordThe article is assigned to the next issue with page or article numbers. Any later correction or retraction is published separately and linked through Crossmark.
Licence and any publication fee are confirmed at acceptance; during the launch phase there is nothing to pay. See Publishing policies.
Sharing & promoting your article
Under CC BY 4.0 there is nothing to ask permission for: deposit, post, forward and reuse the published version freely, with a citation and the DOI link.
Put the published PDF in your institutional repository, ResearchGate or a preprint server; there is no embargo. Cite the DOI so downloads and citations count.
Add the article to your ORCID record and Google Scholar profile. If you gave your ORCID iD at submission, Crossref pushes the record to ORCID for you to approve.
Every article page has share buttons for email, LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp and Facebook, plus a copy-link button for the DOI.
Article pages show views, downloads and citations from Dimensions. Subscribe to a journal's RSS feed or e-alerts to follow what is published alongside your work.
Optional author services
GSMS offers paid, optional help with manuscript editing, proofreading, figure preparation and publication consulting. Using them is never a condition of submission and does not affect editorial decisions or peer review; the editorial office does not know who has used them.

How long does peer review take?
It depends on reviewer availability and the revisions required, so we do not promise fixed turnaround times. Follow your manuscript status in the submission portal; the editorial office will contact you if review is taking longer than usual.
Is there a fee to submit or publish?
Submission is always free. Article processing charges are currently waived for the first three volumes of every journal. When a journal introduces a fee, it will be announced on that journal's pages before it applies.
What file formats are accepted?
The manuscript is always a PDF, up to 50 MB: export it from Word, or compile it from LaTeX. That is the file reviewers read. The editable source (the DOCX, or a single ZIP with the .tex, .bib or .bbl, figures and any custom class or style files) is optional at first submission and required at revision, when it is used for typesetting. The portal checks the ZIP on upload (one main .tex, every referenced figure present, bibliography included) but does not compile it.
Can I track my submission?
Yes. Log in to the submission portal, or use the tracking link in your confirmation email, which works without logging in and shows the current stage of your manuscript.
Do my co-authors need to do anything?
Each co-author receives an email asking them to confirm their authorship and affiliation. Please warn them to expect it; unconfirmed co-authors are flagged to the editor.
Can I submit the same manuscript to more than one journal?
No. Simultaneous submission is not permitted. Your manuscript must not be under consideration elsewhere, including at another GSMS journal.
Can I share my published article?
Yes, anywhere and immediately. Articles are published under CC BY 4.0: post the PDF in your repository or on your website, share it with colleagues, and reuse figures with attribution.
How do I correct a published article?
Email the journal's editorial office. Corrections and retractions are published with their own DOI and linked to the original through Crossmark; the original article is never silently edited.
