About GSMS Publications
The publishing platform of the Green and Sustainable Materials Society: 3 peer-reviewed, open-access journals in sustainable materials, membranes and the environment.
Who we are
GSMS Publications is the publishing platform of the Green and Sustainable Materials Society (GSMS), a non-profit learned society founded in 2023 by researchers at Institut Teknologi Sumatera and registered as a legal association in January 2024.
The Society exists to promote research and development of environmentally friendly materials, to give scientists, engineers and professionals a platform for collaboration, to advocate for supportive policy, and to build capacity through education and training. Publishing is how we make that work public: every journal here is owned by the Society and published without a commercial intermediary.
Our journals are international in scope, with a particular commitment to making high-quality research from Indonesia and the wider region visible to the world. Full details of the Society's governance, constitution and legal registration are on greensus.org.
What we publish
We publish 3 peer-reviewed journals, each with its own Editor-in-Chief and editorial board. All are gold open access under CC BY 4.0, with authors retaining copyright.
Scope, editors, metrics and subject coverage for each title are on the Journals page; each journal's own About page carries its ISSN, indexing and history.
Open access & fees
Everything we publish is free to read, download and reuse from the day it appears.
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). Authors keep the copyright in their work and grant readers the right to share and adapt it with attribution. There are no subscriptions, embargoes or registration walls.
No fees during the launch phase
Article processing charges are waived for the first three volumes of each journal. There are no submission, page, colour-figure or withdrawal fees.
After the launch phase
When a journal introduces an APC, the fee schedule will be published on that journal's pages before it applies. Waivers will be available for corresponding authors in low- and middle-income countries, for authors in financial hardship, and for invited reviews and editorials. Ability to pay never influences editorial decisions.

Editorial standards & ethics
Our journals follow the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing. Editorial decisions rest with each journal's editors and are based on scientific merit and peer review alone.
Single-blind peer review
Every research article is assessed by independent experts before an editor decides.
Similarity screening
Submissions are checked with Crossref Similarity Check before review.
A corrected record
Corrections and retractions are published with their own DOI and flagged through Crossmark.

Indexing & discovery
We list only the services in which our journals are actually indexed or registered. Journal-specific entries appear on each journal's About page as they are confirmed.
- Crossref Every article is registered with a DOI and full metadata deposit.
- Crossmark Readers can check whether an article has been updated, corrected or retracted.
- Google Scholar Article pages carry Highwire Press meta tags for Scholar indexing.
- BASE Bielefeld Academic Search Engine harvests our OAI-PMH feed.
- OAI-PMH Open metadata endpoint for libraries, aggregators and discovery services.
Digital preservation
Every article has a persistent Crossref DOI, its metadata is deposited with Crossref, and the full record is exposed through OAI-PMH so it can be re-harvested by libraries and aggregators.
Where we stand. We are not yet a member of a distributed preservation network such as CLOCKSS, LOCKSS or the PKP Preservation Network. Joining one is on our roadmap as publishing volume grows, and we will state it here only once it is in place.
