What Green and Sustainable Environments publishes, who runs it, how it works and where it is indexed.
Aims & scope
Green and Sustainable Environments publishes science, engineering and policy research on pollution, water, waste and resources, with particular attention to tropical and rapidly developing regions, where technology and governance together determine environmental outcomes. Studies may be grounded in a single place, but they must show what their findings mean beyond it.
The journal is organized in four sections.
Local studies, transferable findings. Studies based on a single site or region are welcome when the authors state which class of settings the site represents and which findings are expected to transfer to comparable settings elsewhere. Manuscripts that describe local conditions without such a statement will be returned without review.
Each section lists the topics it sees most often and the manuscripts it returns without review on the journal sections page.
What we publish
7 article types. Word limits follow the same standard across GSMS journals.

| Letter to the Editor | 500 + 250 for references | None | Comment on an article published in the journal within the last twelve months, raising substantive scientific questions. The original authors are invited to reply. |

Editorial process & peer review
Single-blind peer review. Reviewers know who the authors are; authors do not learn who reviewed them.
Scope, completeness and similarity check by the editorial office and Editor-in-Chief. Out-of-scope work is returned without review.
Two to three independent reviewers selected for subject expertise, with conflicts of interest excluded.
The handling editor recommends; the Editor-in-Chief decides: accept, minor or major revision, or reject. Revisions return to the reviewers when needed.
Copy editing, typesetting and author proof, then Online First with a DOI ahead of issue assignment.
Editorial decisions are independent of the publisher and of any fee. Reviewers receive a verifiable certificate for each completed review. The journal does not publish fixed turnaround times; the decision letter states the deadline for each revision.

Open access, licence & fees
Every article is free to read, download and share from the day it is published. No subscription, no registration.
Authors retain copyright. Anyone may reuse and adapt the work with attribution. Any version may be self-archived without embargo.
Free for first 3 years. No submission fee. The fee never influences editorial decisions. Details.
Journal metrics
Counts from Dimensions and this site. Not a CiteScore or Impact Factor; those are computed by Scopus and Clarivate for indexed journals.
Citation counts refresh daily from the Dimensions Metrics API, over articles whose DOI is registered at Crossref. The same figure appears on each article page, next to a badge linking to the citing papers.

Indexing, abstracting & archiving
DOI registration and reference linking for every article (prefix 10.62755).
Every article carries a Crossmark badge showing its current status and any post-publication updates.
Full-text indexing through Highwire Press metadata on every article page.
Bielefeld Academic Search Engine, harvested through the journal's OAI-PMH endpoint.
Every article has a persistent DOI. Full metadata is deposited with Crossref and exposed for harvesting through OAI-PMH (journal.revise.id/oai). Long-term preservation in a dedicated archive is not yet in place and will be listed here once it is.
History & publisher
- 2026 Journal founded. Established by Green and Sustainable Materials Society and published from the outset on GSMS Publications, with Crossref DOIs, Crossmark and Online First publication.
- June 2026 First issue published. Vol. 1 No. 1, 5 articles.
